Unit 6: Adjectives ending in -ing and -ed

Look at these adjectives: 

disappointing  / disappointed
encouraging / encouraged

Can you complete these sentences with the correct adjective?

-ing adjectives: Describe  things, experiences and people.

Unit 5: Result clauses (so and such)

SO and SUCH can be used as emphasizers, that is, words that help us put the stress on something.
SO is used with adjectives or adverbs, while SUCH is used with nouns (with or without adjectives).


 
SUCH A / SUCH AN + ADJECTIVE + SINGULAR NOUN

She’s SUCH A good girl THAT everybody likes her.

She’s SUCH AN attractive boy THAT all the girls like him.
  
SUCH A LOT OF:

He bought SUCH A LOT OF crisps THAT he couldn’t eat them.

He bought SUCH A LOT OF honey THAT he couldn’t eat it.

SUCH + ADJECTIVE + UNCOUNTABLE NOUN

It was SUCH bad weather THAT we didn't go out.

SUCH + ADJECTIVE + PLURAL NOUN

They are SUCH good students THAT they never speak in class.
  
SO + ADJECTIVE
The box was SO heavy THAT I couldn’t lift it.
  
SO + ADVERB

He drove SO carelessly THAT he crashed.
  
SO + MUCH 

I ate SO much last night THAT I had a stomach-ache.

He put SO much sugar in the tea THAT it was too sweet.

SO + MANY

He has SO many things to do THAT he doesn’t know where to start.
  
SO + LITTLE

I ate SO little last night THAT I was hungry.
He put SO little sugar in the coffee THAT it was bitter.

SO + FEW

He had SO few opportunities THAT he was not happy.

AS A RESULT,   THEREFORE,     CONSEQUENTLY,   AS A CONSEQUENCE,   … , SO …

There was a war. AS A RESULT, many people died.
There was a war. THEREFORE, many people died.

There was a war. CONSEQUENTLY, many people died.
There was a war. AS A CONSEQUENCE, many people died.
